DANSE MACABRE

Anna Niarakis

Cheap routes

You stretch your nakedness everywhere.
You exhibit it shamelessly, so you do not care
which stranger will usurp it tonight.

It may also be someone you know,
humiliation grows .
Yet.
While morality flattens

it springs up from your sweat
more solid than cement.
It’s the body you wanted to stretch
on his sheets, the same thrown to the dogs.

The same body temple, venerable, holy shrine

that today phages from
hosts.
You did not invite tears at the party.
Uninvited appeared late and entered the room.
Tomorrow they’ll leave.
Uninvited and indifferent
as they came.
